A very fishy pet portrait!

a Butterfly Telescope Fancy in pastels. I love these guys! They look so very derpy and are very friendly fish - however, I don't think I will own any more myself for a while because those eyes are quite fragile (eep!) and I have some very boisterous wet pets right now that could cause havoc for such a soft squishy eyeball!

Thoroughly loving how bold and bright and vivid pastel colours can be. The finnage on this guy was so much fun, the teeny detailed scales took a while, however I love how much colour could be laid down. Pastel is most certainly a faster medium than color pencil - however I do feel there is.... something.... missing in the final artwork. It may well be my love of detail, and being able to draw each teeny scale. This piece was quite small - 8x10" I believe - and maybe I just need to scale it right up to get the detail I seek. Is that an excuse to draw a giant fishy piece? Yes, yes I think it is.
